ENOUGH ABOUT ME ALREADY

(my maternal grandmother, Rose, is the baby pictured above)

I've never been particularly comfortable droning on and on about myself, but this week's posts seem to have been just that.  Thanks for bearing with me, for indulging me my follies, and for keeping my spirits high with your kind comments!

But enough about me already!  I want to hear about you...

With the Thanksgiving week nearly upon us, I'm thinking a lot about family.

So the question is:

  • Does your family (mom, dad, brothers, sisters, etc) read your blog?

  • If not, do you know why?  How do you feel about that?

  • If yes, how do they interact with your blog?  Do you write about them?  Ever write something you wish you hadn't?

  1. Great question. For me it is mixed- one of my sister reads it but that is it. I have tired to get my mom to read it but she just doesn't-sigh. SO I guess I could write about them, and I am tempted but if they did read it and I was venting and hurt their feelings, well it would be a family drama I just don't need:)

  2. My sister read it once or twice. My parents don't really have interest in it. It makes me little sad, but it gives me more freedom to write. I know all about family drama and taking things the wrong way...my parents can write a book on that.

I write about them occasionally, but nothing that I wouldn't tell them. I am sure that if they read it there would be some hurt feelings, but that's just the way they are.

So, I am OK with my parents and my sister not being involved in this, I guess. My BFF reads my every post and so does my hubs and that's good enough for me.

  3. I am okay with the family for the most part (just a few of my in-laws I wouldn't want to) viewing my blog. They just better not take offense to what is written because it is my outlet. With that said, none of them read it - it is not their thing. My MIL did a few times, but she didn't comment or anything. My husband had, but became SUPER upset when he thought I was putting too much out there. I told him to stay out of the kitchen if he couldn't handle the heat!!!
There are a few things when I first started blogging that are really personal, but I don't regret posting them.
    Have a wonderful weekend dear.

  4. My dad doesn't. My younger brother does religiously, although he does not comment. He does tell every person he meets to read it. My mom does occasionally, and she doesn't comment, but she does call. I have a few friends that read it, but really it is not something I share with them...don't know why...just haven't. They do not comment.

  5. My mom reads it. I found out my SIL reads it. Most of my friends who do not have blogs don't read it but every once in awhile they do, and do not usually comment. Some others read it through the networked blogs on FB. Hubby thinks I put too much info out there. So far I don't think I have complained about anyone enough where they would be mad. I did have to explain to my mom about Crazy Aunt M - since she is a whack job, I didn't want mom to think I was praising her...just her brie!

  6. I have two blogs - one is a private family blog that no one reads but me anyway and the other is BCC. Due to the nature of my work my real identity is not discernable from that blog. Only my younger sister knows about that blog. Sometimes she reads but mostly she doesn't. It doesn't affect what I blog about though

  7. My husband reads my blog (and occasionally contributes to it) and so do his coworkers. He gives people my blog address all the time.

My parents have read it a few times, but they're not very computer literate so they have a hard time finding it if I'm not on the phone to talk them through the process. They never leave written comments when they do read it, but they always tell me they like it.

My siblings don't even know I have a blog (I don't think). I'm not sure whether they would read it or not. I guess I'll find out if it comes up over the holidays!

As far as content is concerned, I do avoid anything I think would upset anyone. Not only personal issues my family might not like, but anyone who reads my blog, in general, might be offended by.

  8. None of my family or real-life friends read it. A few of them know that I blog but they've never seemed interested in reading it. I think this way I feel more free to be honest when I vent, though, so I'm A-OK with that!

  10. My husband, children and mother read mine so keep it clean folks! I try not to write anything that I could ever possibly regret. If I need to vent I have other avenues in which to do so.

  11. Oh! Well I am happy that you were the person after me at SITS. Thank you for stopping by my blog and saying great things. I am a follower to my fellow northern ca. gal.

My parents only just got a computer and are learning how to open email so I haven't sprung the fact that I have a blog on them yet. My brother keeps up with me on facebook and I have not told him that I have a blog. I would never say bad things on my blog about my family because I adore them but I prefer to keep some things seperate and the blog is one of them. Have a nice weekend

  12. That's a great question! (Love your blog, by the way). My parents are still learing their way around the internet world and are still a little uncertain about all this blogging stuff, but they are awesome and very supportive. Husband is very supportive which is very important.

  13. My family and friends all read my blog. Maybe not every single day, but they all check in periodically, so I do have to be careful what I write. My husband is really sensitive about what I write - what details I give out about our family. Sometimes I wish I could blog "anonymously" because I'd have more to say and I think I'd be a lot funnier!

  14. my family doesn't read my blog, but i would love for them to start! i just haven't really shared too much with them yet. guess if i did, i could at least have a few followers!! my hubby says he doesn't read it, but i think he sneaks to check it out - which i am totally ok with! i wish he would leave some comments at times. they could be really funny! i think i am going to set a goal to sharing the blog with family this turkey day!

  15. What a good question! Most of my family does read my blog... and some of my friends read it, too, but not all of them. For the most part, I write what I want... but, I have to admit, there has been a time or two where I wish I were more anonymous and could vent more freely.

Thanks for helping to make my SITS day last week so special. ;) And I love that Macy Gray song!

  16. My mom reads my blog on a pretty regular basis. You'll see her post a comment every now and then as "Mama Dot." That's mi madre :)

  17. My husband reads it faithfully - he read when nobody else did. No one else in my family reads it. My parents don't have a computer, so that's their excuse... (if they did have one, they would for SURE be too busy!!!) Lot's of my real life friends follow (lurkers all!)

  18. Hi Jen! Great post, love the old photo, I need to do that myself I've seen it a few times recently. To answer your questions, my WHOLE family reads so I have to be really careful about what I write. I am careful nit to cross any boundaries. My dad is funny, he likes to post using anonymous names. Last week when I posted about my oldest son and Easter Island, he evidently read it and go on there and replied back under a different name which I thought was super funny. So yep they all read it and if I miss a day, I get an email from my aunt or my dad saying WHERE THE BLOG! :)

  20. Great photo! I love looking at old family photos!

I keep my blog hidden from the family as best as possible. I want to feel free to write about them. Even so, I've still written stuff that I went back and deleted because I wouldn't want them to read it if they ever did find it!

  21. Most of my family read my blog some of the time; I have one sister and she reads it daily, as does one of my brothers. I'm glad they read it, although I've sometimes thought about doing an anonymous blog (I use my real name on mine) so I could write about some things I'd rather not share with family.
Just stopped by from SITS; hope you'll do the same.
