This Mother's Day, I'm working with Clever Girls in support of Macy's Heart of Haiti to shine a light on the "Trade, Not Aid" program, which provides sustainable income to Haitian artisans struggling to rebuild their lives and support their families after the 2010 earthquake.

What is Macy’s Heart of Haiti? Heart of Haiti is a “Trade, Not Aid” initiative launched by artist and social entrepreneur, Willa Shalit, The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and Macy’s. Already, Heart of Haiti has led to employment of 750 artists in Haiti, providing financial benefits for an estimated 8,500 people in the country.

Macy's sent me one Heart of Haiti Goddess Necklace to review and another to give away to a special person in my life. Here's how I decided to whom I'd bestow the gift:
As a mother, it is important for me to teach generosity and philanthropy to my girls. I keep the girls active in altruistic deeds for our community and for others around the world. During the holidays, my girls take part in a coat drive and work at a local soup kitchen. My eldest daughter volunteers her time at the Salvation Army helping to distribute toys. The girls participate in beach clean-ups and have raised money for projects in developing countries and to promote conservation and preservation of endangered animals.

This month, through their karate studio, the girls are raising money for St. Jude. It's an annual activity and is part of "Martial Arts of St. Jude". This year, one of the karate students was diagnosed with cancer, so the annual drive has taken on a more personal nature. So, it is with the family and the mother of that child (and all the others at St. Jude) in mind that I'm raffling off the Heart of Haiti Goddess Necklace (and a $20 Macy's Gift Card) for a $1 donation to St. Jude. 100% of the proceeds will go to "Martial Arts for St. Jude". I'll be using random.org to draw a winner on May 19.
